The Uncle Gaza Mutual Aid Campaign was started by an Edmonton resident and her uncle who is in Gaza. The campaign has raised over $36,000 over the past year, providing cash to 374 families and individuals living in tents in displacement camps who have no other source of income. As of June 2025, the campaign is now also arranging water truck deliveries to displacement camps in Deir Al Balah, ensuring families have clean water to drink, cook, and wash. Each water truck delivers 3,000L of clean water and costs approximately $100. Our new stretch goal for this climb-a-thon is to raise $10,000. We reached our first goal of $2000 in 2 days, and our second goal of $6000 in 7 days. While Israel’s blockade prevents almost all supplies from entering, some supplies are still available in Gaza at incredibly expensive prices ($70 for one bag of vegetables). Sending money directly to people on the ground in Gaza is one of the only ways people are able to get food, water, medicine, and other scarce supplies, while Israel continues its bombardment and starvation of Gaza.
We know it can feel easy to fall into despair and inaction as we continue to see the horrible violence enacted on Palestinians by Israel, but it is our responsibility to take action wherever and whenever we can. One way we can take action and show solidarity is to participate in mutual aid by sending money directly to people in Gaza - they know what’s needed and can make the most informed decisions about how to use it. While this climb-a-thon is one way people can get involved and raise money for Gaza, we will not stop taking action until Palestine is free, and neither should you. It is not too late to raise your voice and take a stand!
